How to Share LinkedIn Profiles to Build a Wider Network

Keeping your LinkedIn profile updated with your professional achievements is crucial for building a strong portfolio that attracts potential employers and collaborators. One effective strategy to increase your visibility is to learn how to add promotions on LinkedIn.

Growing your network on LinkedIn is a strategic way to enhance your credibility and explore new opportunities. For businesses and recruiters, Social Recruiting on LinkedIn has become an invaluable tool for finding top talent. However, getting discovered on this industry-focused platform can be challenging.

LinkedIn offers several profile-discovery features that you can leverage for that. From profile-sharing options to public URLs and badges, you have a lot of options to make your profile easily available to your target audience.

We’ll teach you exactly those methods in this article.

Send Your Profile to Connections

If you want to grow your current network, consider sending your profile to your connections. They might know someone who needs your skills and can offer you opportunities. LinkedIn offers built-in functionalities for this directly on your profile page.

  1. On LinkedIn, click “Me” on the menu bar and select “View Profile.”
  2. On your profile page, click “More” and choose “Send profile in a message” from the drop-down that appears.
  3. Click the recipient field at the top and enter the profile you want to share yours with. You can choose multiple recipients at a time.
  4. You’ll see your LinkedIn profile URL in the provided message box. For better personalization, we recommend you add a message along with the link.
  5. Attach any media, link, or other message elements as necessary. Then, hit “Send.”

LinkedIn will suggest only your first-degree and second-degree connections when sharing your profile. Of course, you can still enter third-degree connections as long as you know their name on LinkedIn.

If you’re using the mobile app, you can share your profile by tapping your profile picture and choosing “View Profile” > “Contact” > “Your Profile” > “Share via….” Select which messaging platform you want to use for sharing and proceed as instructed.

Keep in mind that LinkedIn is a networking platform. One of the best ways to make a good impression is to recommend others for suitable opportunities. The steps to share someone else’s profile are exactly the same as the ones for sharing your own.

Use Public Profile URLs for Non-Connections

LinkedIn public profile URLs are unique web addresses that point to a user’s LinkedIn profile. They allow people to easily find and view your profile information, even if they aren’t connected to you on LinkedIn.

The previous method also shares your profile link but primarily on LinkedIn only. It also doesn’t have any customization applied. However, you can actually edit your public profile URL before sharing it. Here’s how:

  1. Go to your LinkedIn profile page.
  2. In the upper right, click the “Edit” button (a pencil icon) for “Public profile & URL.” This will redirect you to your public profile settings page.
  3. Under “Edit your custom URL,” click the pencil icon for your current public profile link.
  4. In the editing field, type your preferred URL. Make sure that it aligns with LinkedIn’s requirements.
  5. Click the “Save” button.

After saving your changes, copy your new LinkedIn URL and share it with other professionals as necessary. Here are some use cases where it might come in handy.

  • Resume: To achieve a cleaner look on your resume, use your custom URL instead of the lengthy, generic profile links provided by LinkedIn.
  • Networking: When networking, the custom URL makes it easier for you to share your profile and showcase what you do even with those you don’t connect with at all on LinkedIn.
  • Online Presence: Add your URL to your bio, whether on blogging sites or on social media networks, to enhance your personal brand.
  • Job Search: Strategize your job search by incorporating relevant keywords into your unique URL.

Create a Public Profile Badge

You can’t always actively share your LinkedIn profile using the platform’s buttons or your custom URL. For a more passive approach, you can create a public profile badge. Typically embedded on your own website, these badges make it easy for anyone to access your profile information.

This convenience makes it easier for potential employers, collaborators, or even casual connections to learn more about you professionally. Here’s how to create one for yourself:

  1. Go to your profile page.
  2. Click “Edit” for “Public profile & URL” in the upper right.
  3. In your public profile settings, scroll down to “Public Profile badge” and click “Create a badge.” This will bring you to a profile badge builder.
  4. For both the scripts provided, click “Copy code.”
  5. Paste them to your website’s HTML files for the badge to take effect.

So, what exactly do the two scripts do?

  • Code 1 is the general code for the badge functionality and needs to be placed only once in the <head> section of your website’s HTML. It acts like a base script for the badge to work.
  • Code 2 defines the specific look and feel of your badge. You can choose the one you prefer and copy the corresponding code. Paste it where you want the badge to appear on your webpage’s HTML, usually within the body section.

Control Your Available Information

While you want your profile to get discovered, there’s no need to flash every detail about you to the public. You can control the information you have on LinkedIn by tweaking your public profile settings.

  1. On your profile page, click the pencil icon for “Public profile & URL.”
  2. Under the “Edit Visibility” section on the right, toggle on/off the details you have on your LinkedIn profile. For example, you can hide your profile photo and make it visible only to first-degree connections.

While there’s no correct formula for the things that you should and should not share on your public profile, we recommend you do the following:

  • Publicize your headline and summary. These sections offer a quick snapshot of your professional brand. Make them public to grab attention from potential employers or clients and showcase your value proposition.
  • Share only your most relevant and impressive experiences and educational achievements that align with your career goals. Keep any sensitive details private.
  • Keep your email address, phone number, and other contact details private unless you’re actively seeking outreach.

LinkedIn Growth Starts with Profile Discovery

Relying on organic traffic alone, your LinkedIn profile page can just sit there for a long time without receiving any views. You can proactively bring your target audience to your profile by using LinkedIn’s sharing features, custom profile URLs, and profile badges. Sharing your profile allows you to call attention to your professional presence online.

Before bringing traffic to your LinkedIn profile through sharing, optimize it first. And, in that regard, Highperformr.ai can be your best partner.
