What is the Best Time to Post on LinkedIn?

What is the Best Time to Post on LinkedIn?

When it comes to professional social networking, LinkedIn reigns supreme. With over 830 million global members, this is the best spot to broaden your connections and engagements in the industry, marketplace, and academe.

However, maximum engagement is all about timing. Knowing the best time to post on LinkedIn will improve your content’s visibility, increase engagement, and improve ROI. Common sense dictates that typical business working hours (9 AM to 5 PM, weekdays) are the optimal times, but there are still peak hours within that period you must consider.

We analyzed the best time to post on LinkedIn to help you prepare a consistent and effective publishing calendar. Read on to learn more.

What are the Best Times to Post Content on LinkedIn?

LinkedIn users' habits vary. Some use the platform every morning, while others do so midday. Some use it frequently, while others are occasional users.

So, there’s no clear-cut answer.

However, research by several brands shows that LinkedIn members exhibit common patterns in usage. Many users engage more actively during certain times of the day and on specific workdays.

To provide better insight into the best time to post on LinkedIn, we synthesized some research on this topic and came up with these conclusions:

1. Weekdays Over Weekends

A blog by LinkedIn stated that posting on weekdays delivers the most engagement. This makes sense as most professionals are in “office mode” during these days—networking with other members, looking for job opportunities, engaging with other businesses, or recruiting employees.

Weekends are for rest, family, or worship so it’s expected to have a decline in usage during these days. However, some industries might be more active on weekends than weekdays, such as creatives, entertainment, education, and retail.

2. Mid-morning Hours for Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays

HubSpot, Sprinklr, and Hootsuite have varying analyses of this subject. But their findings converge on the fact that posting in mid-morning hours (9 AM - 11 AM) on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays is effective.

It’s best to post when users are taking a break from work. 11 AM is an ideal choice as it approaches lunchtime, and people usually check their socials. This hour is preferable to 9 AM, when most users are likely occupied with their office tasks.

Of course, afternoon hours are still good for engagement. 2 PM - 4 PM (“coffee break” hours) are ideal as users might scroll through their phones at these times while having their break.

Some findings indicate that 4 PM on Mondays is also recommended. Users are usually busy planning their week in the morning, and it’s only by afternoon they start to wind down and check their socials.

3. Tuesday is the Most Active Day

Research indicates that Tuesday is the most active day on LinkedIn

We are uncertain whether this is a coincidence or not. But perhaps users have settled into their weekly work routines or caught up on their Monday workloads, giving them ample time to connect on LinkedIn.

4. Afternoon Hours for Thursdays and Fridays

Based on Buffer and Sprinklr analyses, we also recommend posting in certain afternoon hours on Thursdays and Fridays.

For Thursdays, around 4 PM is the ideal time. Professionals often catch up for Friday deadlines during this day, so they only start to wind down in the afternoon.

For Fridays, you should post on LinkedIn in the early afternoon (1 PM - 2 PM). Many professionals have lesser loads on this day after meeting their weekend deliverables. So, they might check their LinkedIn a bit earlier on this day than on a Thursday.

5. Early Mornings for Weekends

Professionals often scroll first through their social accounts like LinkedIn before hopping into their vacation or weekend plans. You can post as early as 7 AM as many people check their socials first thing in the morning.

Why Does it Matter to Choose the Right Time to Post on LinkedIn?

Most people have access to LinkedIn around the clock, and the platform is becoming more personal than ever. So, chances are your followers also use LinkedIn beyond their working hours. So, why limit your posting time to these “optimal” periods?

Here are some benefits of posting at the right time on LinkedIn:

  • Improved visibility: Many LinkedIn members use the platform during peak hours. Posting at these times can increase your content’s visibility and your brand’s exposure. The post might also reach more new potential followers.
  • Increased engagement: Professionals often spend time and energy browsing LinkedIn during these optimal times, so they are more likely to like, comment, or share your content.
  • Enhanced ROI: As more people engage with your post, your chances of generating more leads and attracting customers increase.

How to Achieve Perfect Timing When Posting on LinkedIn

Now that we know the best times (and days) to post on LinkedIn. The challenge is how to effectively post content during these ideal periods.

Here are some suggestions:

Prepare a Post Publishing Calendar

Plan your regular daily or weekly posts so you have ample preparation time. We understand that some prefer a “spontaneous” approach when inspiration strikes. However, if your goal is to consistently write high-quality articles every Tuesday, you might struggle to maintain consistency without planning.

Prepare a calendar detailing the posting dates and times. Each entry should contain specific details about the content you plan to post—such as a tentative title, outline, photos, and references. If you’re struggling to generate ideas, social AI tools can provide tailored-fit post ideas or drafts about your industry.

Use Ready-Made Post Templates

Having a pre-made post template can help you craft posts in no time. This approach ensures that you can consistently post high-quality and compelling content during the optimal periods.

Here are some common LinkedIn post templates:

Personal Branding Templates

Use these to showcase your brand’s value by providing useful insights and information. These are highly recommended for CEOs, thought leaders, authors, influencers, and freelancers.

Product Updates Templates

Use these to share the latest updates and features about your company’s products and services.

Event Announcement Templates

These templates help you write compelling invitations to your followers and target audience to support your upcoming events.

Top Influencer Post Templates

Create trendy posts that captivate people’s hearts by emulating the marketing posts of top-rated influencers.

“Build in Public” Post Templates

f you are developing software, a project, or a business and want to be transparent about it, these templates let you professionally share your building process. Use these templates to share your latest features, invite feedback, or seek advice.

Try Using An Automated Social Media Management Platform

Leveraging a modern social media management platform like Highperformr can streamline your LinkedIn posting process, so it’s easier to post consistently during optimal periods.

This platform is now equipped with artificial intelligence to understand your field’s trends and popular topics to automatically generate informative post ideas for you.

Think of it like ChatGPT. Provide the platform’s AI with some prompts detailing your post idea, and it will produce a draft in seconds. You can also use preset instructions to help the AI match your post preferences, such as making it professional, adding emojis, or fixing grammar and spelling.

Additionally, it lets you automate basic tasks such as cross-posting (if you want to share posts across LinkedIn handles), first comment adding, auto draft saving, and reposting.

Take Some Break

Catching up with daily optimal hours can be exhausting in the long run and may lead to burnout. Continuously churning out content might eventually diminish its quality and harm your brand’s reputation.

Don’t forget to take some days off from LinkedIn to refresh your mind and help generate fresh ideas. Remember, rest is also productive.
