The Human Brain Project (HBP) was a large-scale, 10-year scientific research project (2013-2023), substantially funded by the European Union. It aimed to revolutionize our understanding of the human brain by building a cutting-edge digital research infrastructure, EBRAINS. This infrastructure provides tools and services for brain research, including high-performance computing, data sharing, brain atlases, simulation, and neuromorphic computing. The HBP officially concluded in September 2023, with its enduring legacy and services continuing through EBRAINS AISBL, an international non-profit association.
Served as the central operational and scientific coordination hub for the HBP, facilitating collaboration among over 150 partner institutions across Europe.
Campus Biotech is a modern life sciences research center, offering advanced facilities and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, which was vital for the HBP's ambitious goals.
Characterized by a highly collaborative, international, and research-intensive environment. It focused on pushing the boundaries of neuroscience through interdisciplinary teamwork, big data, and computational approaches.
The Geneva location placed the HBP's coordination in a globally recognized hub for scientific research, innovation, and international organizations, facilitating widespread collaboration.
The Human Brain Project was a pan-European initiative, with over 150 partner institutions from 19 European countries. It fostered extensive collaboration in brain research, data sharing, development of the EBRAINS research infrastructure, high-performance computing, brain simulation, medical informatics, and neuromorphic computing. While primarily European, its impact and collaborations extended globally, aiming to create a worldwide resource for brain science.
