The Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH), founded in 2000, is one of the largest research centres in Greece and a leading European institution in its fields of expertise. Its mission is to conduct cutting-edge research, foster innovation, and promote the transfer of technology and know-how to industry and society. CERTH comprises five institutes: Information Technologies Institute (ITI), Chemical Process & Energy Resources Institute (CPERI), Hellenic Institute of Transport (HIT), Institute of Applied Biosciences (INAB), and Institute for Bio-Economy and Agri-Technology (iBO). These institutes focus on areas such as ICT, energy, environment, sustainable development, industrial processes, agri-technology, food science, biomedical informatics, drug discovery, and smart mobility solutions. CERTH actively participates in numerous EU and national research projects, collaborating with academic institutions, industrial partners, and public bodies worldwide.
Serves as the central hub for CERTH's administration, strategic planning, research coordination, and hosts several of its core research institutes and advanced laboratory facilities.
Modern research campus with specialized laboratories for its five institutes, advanced analytical equipment, high-performance computing infrastructure, and facilities for pilot-scale testing and demonstrations.
A dynamic, collaborative, and international research environment fostering innovation, scientific excellence, and knowledge sharing. The culture encourages multidisciplinary approaches to complex challenges and supports the professional development of its researchers.
The headquarters is a key node in the Greek and European research and innovation ecosystem, driving technological advancements, supporting regional development, and contributing to national strategic priorities in science and technology.
CERTH maintains a significant global presence primarily through extensive international collaborations and participation in competitive research programs. It is a highly active participant in European Union framework programs like Horizon Europe, Horizon 2020, and FP7, partnering with hundreds of universities, research institutions, and companies across Europe and worldwide. While not maintaining numerous physical branch offices internationally, CERTH's researchers engage in global scientific networks, joint publications, researcher exchanges, and contribute to international policy and standardization efforts in its key research domains, including ICT, energy, environment, transport, health, and agri-food technology.
